New Mexico Games to Host Pickleball Tournament

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – (July 27, 2023) – The New Mexico Games will host a Pickleball Tournament at the Manzano Mesa Pickleball Complex from Aug. 4-6, 2023. Registration is currently open with a $55 registration fee and will close at midnight on July 28. Anyone over the age of 12 is eligible to compete.

The event will be divided into three brackets: Men’s and Women’s Open Singles, Men’s and Women’s Open Doubles, and Mixed Doubles. The tournament kicks off at 8 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 4, starting with the Open Singles bracket.

The top three finishers from each division will receive a cash prize of $600 for first place, $300 for second place and $100 for third place. They will also qualify to compete in the 2024 State Games of America National Competition that will be held in San Diego, California, from July 17-21, 2024.

Pickleball has become an increasingly popular sport in recent years. According to a recent Association of Pickleball Professionals report published by CNBC, more than 36.5 million people played pickleball from August 2021 to August 2022. Following the growing interest in the game, the Manzano Mesa Pickleball Complex opened its doors in Albuquerque in 2017, and features 18 courts, LED lighting and spectator seating.
